What an Exciting weekend of College Football! Just when you thought you could make out a playoff picture the underdogs make some serious noise in these games! We Start with Clemson. The Tigers have looked incredible of the past 7 weeks but this past Friday evening something changed. The Syracuse Orange steal one away from Clemson in a 27-24 stunner. Clemson did not look like the same dominant team they'd been all year. Now it didnt help that Clemson lost their starting QB Kelly Bryant at the very end of the first half, but even at that point Syracuse had been holding off Clemson. The only real explanation i have is that Clemson went into that game expecting to not try and still destroy them, but the Orange had something to say to that!
We will stick in the Tiger category as we go to the battle of the Bengals with Auburn vs LSU. First of all shout out to Joe for great Coach O impression in the latest Pod, cracks me up every time. What was more impressive than Joe's impression was LSU'S big upset win over the Auburn Tigers. Auburn this year looked to be like a sleeper team to sneak into a playoff spot or at least play spoiler to the likes of Georgia or Alabama, but it seems they have more things to fix before they are going to be considered true competitors. Auburn really should be disappointed in this loss because this LSU team was in complete disarray after losing to Troy just the week prior, with there coach being threatened with Job loss and a team backed into the corner they stepped up. Now with two Losses Auburn will still look to play spoiler but it seems they will not have a chance at the playoffs.
I'm going to couple the next two upsets together because they're in the same conference and in the same state. Washington and Washington State both take the L this weekend. I will say i am not as surprised by these two losses because the Pac 12 teams are very close in coaching and talent and they play each other real well. The bigger surprise of the two upsets is the Washington State loss. They were shutdown by Cal 37-3 It just seems that Washington State was overrated to begin with because the upsets this weekend were at least close, but this was a total beat down. Washington can still have life if they win out but if the want a shot at the title a few more undefeated teams will have to fall.
Things continue to get interesting as we progress each week. All eyes are now on the new top 4. Are Bama and Georgia legit or will they fall like the rest of the SEC? Penn State is on fire but will that fire be put out by there next two opponents in Michigan and Ohio State? TCU is on a hot streak but the Big 12 never seems to hang around in the end can they stay in it with some Big 12 foes looking to play spoiler? Join me in watching in the coming weeks as these questions are answered and keep reading as I keep providing my Hot Takes each week!
