So I figured I'd keep posting my CFB takes to practice writing, I'm a journalism at Kennesaw State in GA. So here are a few of my takes on this past weekend in College Football.
First Crazy thing Highly Ranked Oklahoma Sooners lost to to the major underdog Iowa State. As this game went on more and more CFB fans tooned in to watch this upset go down amd more Sooners fans watched and cried! The best part about this was Iowa State was starting their second string quarterback who was also their starting LINEBACKER. So he took the team down field and scored a touchdown and turned right around and sacked Heisman hopeful Baker Mayfield on there next drive. Now OU was a top 4 ranked team and now this will mix things up and it will be hard for the Sooners get back to being a top team because their Big 12 schedule isnt very strong.
Another interesting thing to happen this weekend happened during the Bama vs TAMU Game. Now the Tide still Rolled but the Aggies put up quite a fight against Bama. This was Bamas first semi big game and A&M didn't let the game go without a fight. The point I'm trying to make is Bama really doesnt have a tough schedule this year, the toughest regular season game they have is Auburn at the end of the year and I wouldn't be surprised if Auburn or even a UGA in the SEC championship gave them a surprise punch in the mouth and upset them. I don't want to entertain this idea too much because Bama and Saban are definitely battle tested and are always over prepared for every match up, but its definitely interesting.
Speaking of the Georgia Bulldogs they are red hot right now! The pride of the team is their stronghold defense, every opponent they face struggles to move the ball on them. Their offense is firing on cylinders and thats with a freshman QB Jake Fromm because their usual starter was injured in UGA's first game. Now UGA is known historically for being excellent in the regular season and sleeping in the post season ( something all GA teams are known for), but as they are under new management with second year Coach Kirby Smart A Saban disciple himself has this team fired up and I would not be surprised if they gave some of the playoff regulars fits this post season.
A few honorable mentions before I shut up. Michigan Lost to Michigan State on Saturday and people are starting to take a look at Harbaugh's coaching ability. All I have to say is his winning percentage has only gone up since he's been there and its a hard transition from managing egos in the NFL to being the recruiting military general you have to be in College. The Texas Longhorns took an exciting victory over Kansas State in double overtime and could kick Oklahoma while they're down in the red river rivalry game this coming weekend, definitely going to be a must watch game.
Anyways I hope you enjoy what I write, I love Sports debates so comment below with your takes or hit me up on Twitter @Porkchop971. Shout out to Andy and Joe for giving the Dirtballs a platform to give there takes. till next week Fam!
The SEC championship will be fantastic this year. I can't wait
Whats up Andrew. I finally made a new account on the site and saw i had another fellow College Football Dirtball thankfully. I live in McDonough about 30 minutes south of Atlanta so i know exactly where Kennesaw is. I figured I'd chime in every week on your Hot Takes to talk some College Football since Joe and Andy aren't to fond of it on the show. I didn't major in journalism so bare with me on my writing mistakes .
The parity is alive this season to say the least. With a crazy week 7 that just happened my Bulldogs jumped to #3 in the polls with Penn State at #2 and of course The Tide at #1. TCU is sitting at number 4 but i'm still not sold on any team out of the Big 12. If they win out they definitely deserve a playoff spot but they still have to play Oklahoma and Texas so i can see them losing before the year is over.
My hot take from what i have seen is that the Big12 and Pac12 could potentially miss out on the play offs this year . With Clemson losing this could end up hurting the ACC as well. Miami being undefeated will not last much longer with the way they are winning football games. So unless Clemson wins out i can easily see the ACC missing the playoffs as well.
With that being said, this could be the year the SEC has 2 teams in the playoff. That being The University of Georgia and The University of Alabama. If Georgia and Alabama wins out, they will be sitting at 1 and 3 or even 1 and 2 if Penn State doesn't stand against Ohio State and Michigan. How i see this possible is if the SEC championship game is nothing short of what it was in 2012. If Georgia or Alabama only lose this game by 3 points or less how could you not send them to the playoffs? I personally believe it will be easier for Bama to get in if they lose then Georgia because we know Alabama makes the ratings and its all about money.
Week 8 is just a few days away, So lets see if my opinion still stands after this weekend.
